The co-owners of Global Plant Genetics, Rupert Hargreaves and Jamie Petchell, say there are “thrilled” with the news that the Norfolk-based company has won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2022.
The intellectual property business, which protects and licenses strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, asparagus, grape and nut varieties estimates that more than 70 per cent of its business is in export sales, covering all corners of the world. “This is a remarkable achievement for the seven-year-old company and is the highest accolade that a British business can achieve,” said Rupert Hargreaves. “It is awarded by Her Majesty the Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister, and we are immensely proud of this achievement.”
Global Plant Genetics represents some of the world’s very best plant breeders within its product sectors, and is responsible for developing markets for the varieties the world over. “It is a huge testament to our team, our breeders and our clients to have achieved this award, especially during the difficulties of the last two years with Covid,” commented Jamie Petchell. “We are fortunate that the healthy products in which we are involved are expanding in almost all international markets and while competition is fierce, we continue to take an expanding market share.”
