Growing media producer Klasmann-Deilmann used its first time exhibiting at Fruit Logistica in Berlin in early February to underline its commitment to vegetable and soft-fruit production, presenting a range of new product solutions for efficient, sustainable cultivation.
“More and more people appreciate a healthy diet,” said Managing Director Moritz Böcking. “However, competition for land, depleted soils, and extreme weather conditions make reliable cultivation difficult. For some time now we have realised that the demand for high-quality growing media and cultivation systems for soilless food production is steadily increasing. We are therefore increasingly focusing on the development of modern, sustainable solutions that offer added value to users and reduce emissions”.
Among the new products on display to a global audience for the first time were the Growbag ADVANCED, which uses a completely new mixture of raw materials based on special GreenFibre® wood fibre and a reduced proportion of coir pith. According to the company, the Growbag ADVANCED fulfils the requirement to use local raw materials from the circular economy with a low carbon dioxide footprint, and shows good results in strawberry production, alongside Klasmann-Deilmann’s range of coir growbags and broad portfolio of coir products.
A new range of ADVANCED Substrates for producing soft-fruit in containers was also presented. According to the company, these modern formulations offer optimum results and at the same time enable the increased use of renewable raw materials for more sustainable cultivation. Tried and tested substrate solutions were on show, particularly for blueberries, such as the TS 4 Blueberry Substrate with perlite and GreenFibre® (recipe U55) and optimum recipes for strawberries and raspberries.
Moritz Böcking added, “Our growing media, growbags and system solutions support our customers in the soilless cultivation of soft-fruit and vegetables and thus contribute to the sustainable supply of healthy food for the global population”.
