The Duchy 2024 Autumn and Winter Cauliflower Trials Field Open Day, followed by an evening Brassica Conference, will be held on Thursday 18th January 2024, and growers are invited to attend.
The Field Open Day will be held at Trevarnon Farm, Gwithian, Hayle, Cornwall, TR27 5EB from 2.00 – 4.00 pm by kind permission of Pat Hosking and Nikki and Tim Powell.
The evening conference will take place at Tregenna Castle Hotel, St Ives, Cornwall.
The event will provide the opportunity for cauliflower and brassica growers to view and assess new varieties from all the major seed houses in one place, as well as bringing together specialists from across the sector for the evening conference.
The evening programme includes a presentation of the results from the trials, updates on the latest varieties and solutions to help the industry thrive and go forward. This will be followed with a talk from specialist Andy Richardson on Brassica crop production and crop protection.
Hutchinson’s technical support for vegetables, Peter Waldock says: “Cornwall is the ideal location to view new and current cauliflower genetics in-field and assess how they work in sequence.
“As there will be representatives from the seed trade, local industry, and Duchy College present, it is a great opportunity for the industry to come together to discuss how to address current challenges in the sector.”
Since the demise of AHDB Horticulture, there had been uncertainty around this annual event, but thanks to sponsorship from Hutchinsons, seed companies, the Duchy College and local growers, it is able to go ahead
