Pot and tray manufacturer Desch Plantpak celebrated its 60th anniversary on X (formerly Twitter), pointing out that the 3 March 1964 saw the formation of the Congleton Plastic Company, where it produced roto-moulding and injection moulded pots.
Another UK factory opened in Mundon near Maldon in October 1968 as Plantpak Ltd for the extrusion and thermoforming of trays. In 1988 Congleton became Cookson Plastic Products Ltd and in January 1990 the two UK companies came together as Cookson Plantpak Ltd. In 1997 the UK plants, together with Cookson polymers, were acquired by SYNBRA and continued trading as Synprodo Plantpak. Around 2008 injection moulding was transferred to Mundon, and subsequently Congleton was closed in 2016. Since 2014 the company has invested heavily in Mundon, making it a state-of-the-art factory.
Desch’s Manager for Retail and Marketing, Kees Waqué, commented “Every one of our six factories has their own history, but of course it’s great today that we celebrate 60 years presence in the UK.
“From our humble beginnings in Congleton to our establishment as Plantpak in Maldon in 1968, our commitment to quality and service has remained steadfast throughout the years. We owe our success to the unwavering support of our customers, partners, and employees, both past and present. With a rich legacy built on integrity, innovation, and customer satisfaction, we are confident in our ability to lead the way in the horticulture industry for many more years to come.”
