In an email update, the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has confirmed that it has extended the approval expiry dates for pesticide active substances, which have been supported for use in Great Britain, and which were due to expire before April 2025.
According to HSE, ‘Each active substance affected has been considered individually and approval holders have been contacted on the outcome, which confirms extensions of up to 5 years. Applicants who have submitted a renewal application for an affected active substance have been contacted.’
The GB Pesticides Approvals Register has been updated with the new expiry dates, and the decisions to extend the approval period have been taken in line with Article 17(1) of retained regulation (EC) No 1107/2009. The length of the extension has been determined on the basis of Article 17(3) of that regulation, particularly the need to establish a coherent renewals work programme and the time needed to complete the renewals procedure for individual substances.
HSE says that it will be extending affected plant protection products, where appropriate, and will be contacting authorisation holders in due course; starting with those with the earliest expiry dates.
