The area of onions grown from seed in the Netherlands this year dropped by 2,800ha compared to last year, according to provisional results from the 2022 Dutch agricultural census.
The 27,3200ha total is a reduction of 9% compared to 2021 which recorded the largest area grown in recent times.
As the Dutch onion export season comes to an end, the Holland Onion Association says exports have increased by 7% compared to the previous period, despite it losing key markets in Asia where the Indian-grown crop has regained market share.
