The British Leek Growers Association has launched a lockdown recipe competition designed to celebrate the versatility of the British Leek, while it is at the height of its season.
The competition, which is open to everyone from chefs to students and home cooks to food bloggers is seeking to find a truly sustainable recipe that minimises food waste and uses as much of the vegetable as possible.
The recipes will be judged by the chairman of the British Leek Growers Association Stewart Aspinall and naturopathic chef Julie Cleijne. The winner will recipe a £100 voucher, a full day’s training or consultancy with Julie Cleijne and a trip to a leek farm (or financial equivalent).
Julie Cleijne comments: “Simply get creative with every part of the leek, creating recipes that either use the whole leek, or as much of the leek as possible – minimising waste. All recipes must include leeks as an intrinsic ingredient, and you can enter anything from a canapé, starter, side dish or main course to even a dessert recipe! It’s up to you.”
Entrants should detail recipe ingredients and method and provide a photo or photos of their final dish. Then email these to the British Leek Growers Association by 18th February for judging. The winning recipe or recipes will be featured on the British Leeks website and social media channels.
The email address for entries is: britishleeks@mail.com and full terms and conditions can be found on the British Leek Growers Association website. www.britishleeks.co.uk
