Just weeks after it was announced that it had sold six garden centres to Blue Diamond, Wyevale Garden Centres (WGC) has issued two more statements confirming the sale of another four garden centres and one nursery.
On 30 July the group announced that sale of Springfield Garden Centre in Chelmsford to Longacres Garden Centres and of Par Garden Centre to Maidenhead Aquatics, with both expected to continue to operate as retail garden centres. Then, just three days later on 2 August WGC confirmed it had sold Bridgemere Garden Centre and Bridgemere Nursery to Blue Diamond, and Cheltenham Garden Centre to Webbs Garden Centres.
The acquisitions mean that Blue Diamond now has 37 locations across the UK, of which 16 have been acquired from Wyevale. Alan Roper, Managing Director of Blue Diamond, said: “As a horticulturalist, I am personally so pleased to be acquiring Bridgemere centre and nursery, which I have known since the 1980’s. I look forward to focusing on its original virtues and to working with our new colleagues at the centre. I would like to thank the team at Wyevale Garden Centres for their support and professionalism throughout this process.”
Nigel Long, Managing Director of Longacres Garden Centres, commented on his firms purchase, saying, “We are delighted to expand the Longacres group through the acquisition of the Wyevale Garden Centre’s Springfield centre in Chelmsford. Longacres is a multi-generation, family-run business and we are looking forward to bringing our fifth site and new team members on board.”
