The global vertical farming company, Infarm has published a comprehensive Impact Vision Paper that states the company’s vision for the impact of the future of food.
Infarm says it is the first company in the vertical farming sector that has outlined its strengths and challenges, plans, ambitions, and commitment to transparency and sustainability. The ‘vision paper’ includes Infarm’s net-zero carbon approach and actions the company is taking in its ‘Big Four’ impact areas: local production and urban farming, land use and biodiversity, carbon and energy, and water.
“Infarm is a purpose-born, tech-led urban farming company growing a global, cloud-connected vertical farming network. And we’re doing it with the greatest respect for people and planet since the beginning. Growing fresh and tasty produce locally and sustainably has been Osnat’s, Guy’s and my mission from day one when we started Infarm. Now, almost 10 years later, we have built a company with more than 1000 Infarmers around the globe who share this mission with us – and we keep growing. Together with other challengers in the Food and AgTech industry, we are here to create a new and sustainable food system”, says Erez Galonska, co-founder and CEO of Infarm.
Sudhanshu Sarronwala, Chief Impact Officer at Infarm: “In our Impact Vision Paper, we define our focus areas and set ambitious sustainability targets for the near future. As the first-mover, we outline both strengths and challenges. We hope that this encourages other Food and AgTech companies to take their approach to sustainability and transparency to the next level as well. While we have to produce more food than ever before to feed the growing population, we don’t have enough land or natural resources to do so as we have done till now. Therefore, we strongly believe in a new generation of Food and AgTech companies as a crucial alternative to traditional farming.”
Based on the concept of Planetary Boundaries, introduced in 2009 by the Stockholm Resilience Centre, and Infarm’s Materiality Matrix – a foundational exercise completed in 2021 with contribution from Infarmers, investors and partners which identified and prioritised the most important issues that shape Infarm’s sustainability thinking and which will lead to its first sustainability report planned for 2023.
