The baby food firm, Ella’s Kitchen, commissioned a survey that has revealed that almost one in five two-year-olds have never tried a vegetable. The study showed that some parents give up the struggle to get their children to eat vegetables and stop trying altogether.
As a result, it would appear that over 30,000 UK toddlers are not getting their “five a day”. In the long term this could stunt their development. Dr Lucy Chambers from the British Nutrition Foundation commented: “This review highlights that familiarising infants with a wide variety of vegetables during the early weaning period is positively associated with increased acceptance and intake of these foods in later childhood.”
