For growers looking to treat large areas, the distribution of biological control agents, particularly insect predators and parasites, can be a logistical challenge. Now Koppert Biological Systems is working on the development of a new tractor-mounted distribution system which builds on its previous machines in this area.
Koppert developed its Rotabug system especially for crops like strawberries. It can be used to disperse natural enemies including Spidex, Thripex, and Swirski-Mite and comes in two versions, a hand-held frame which is pushed through the crop (the Rotabug-W) and a tractor mounted version: the Rotabug-R, which was launched at Fruit Focus last year.
The Rotabug-R comprises a three-litre dosing drum with aluminium-covered motor and easily adjustable dispersal openings on a horizontal boom. Now the company is developing a larger tractor mounted machine, dubbed the Rotabug-T which is aimed at areas above four hectares.
