An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join the Cyder Team at The Newt in Somerset, a country estate, luxury hotel and visitor attraction in the heart of the West Country (www.thenewtinsomerset.com).
The successful candidate must have relevant horticultural training, qualifications and experience in commercial fruit growing and orchard maintenance. They will be an integral part of a small team. First class cyder requires first class apples, and a considerable investment has been made on 65 acres of traditional Somerset cyder orchards (3,000+ trees and over 70 varieties), crab apple orchards, an apple maze and various other smaller orchards. A new modern orchard and a nuttery are in development. The role includes all aspects of maintenance, and responsibility for the health of the trees and orchards.
The job demands a “hands on” approach, and the necessary training and qualifications to operate orchard machinery, alongside the ability to manage and coordinate third party contractors. The candidate will need IT skills sufficient for producing reports, accurate record-keeping, making plans and keeping up with email correspondence. A valid and clean driving licence is needed for the role.
The position is full time (40 hours per week) 5 days from 7. Salary negotiable and dependant on experience.
