Dutch growers harvested 1.2 million tonnes of onions grown from seed in the Netherlands last year, the lowest tonnage for four years, according to Statistics Netherlands.
The crop area had contracted by 9%, to 27,400ha, after increasing the previous year to 30,100ha, an all-time high for the figures published by the national authority since 2000.
The national harvest of onions grown from sets totalled 268,000 tonnes.
The harvest of 3.6 million tonnes of ware potatoes was 8.8% up on 2021. The production area regained ground, to 76,600ha, having fallen slightly in the previous year.
