With energy prices rising at a considerable rate in Europe in recent months, production costs are an important factor for choosing the right product. So what about products that are specifically developed for cold season production? Think about crops that were bred in colder and darker circumstances with low energy input, such as the Super Serie Cyclamen range by Schoneveld Breeding.
Winter Cyclamen
Schoneveld Breeding has been working on adapting their Super Serie winter Cyclamen genetics with an aim to develop cold tolerant crops. These plants also require less energy while still resulting in a high quality product. The full range is comprised of: Super Serie Mini Winter (Mini flower), Super Serie Picasso (silver leaf Mini Winter type), Super Serie Macro (Midi flower) or Super Serie Vintro (Large flower).
Mini Winter
Mini Winter is a Cyclamen type with mini flowers suitable for a 9 to 10,5 centimetre pot. This Super Serie flowers uniformly and is suitable for late autumn and winter sales. The plant structure is open, which makes Mini Winter suitable for changing weather conditions and less sensitive to Botrytis. Mini Winter still creates a bunch of flowers for a long shelf life. Finishing of the crop can be done with using low energy. That means an easy way to save costs in cultivation.
Picasso
Super Serie Picasso is very similar to Mini Winter, except for its leaves. Picasso has silver leaves and is perfect for late autumn and winter sales. In the colder season, it shows beautiful flowers on sturdy stems with an open and round shaped plant. Cultivation requires low energy, so there is no reason to worry about the costs.
Macro
Super Serie Macro is a Cyclamen with midi sized flowers. It is suitable for a 12 to 15 centimetre pot and grows out to a strong, robust plant. During the very late season, flowering from the middle of January until March a pot size from 11 to 13 centimetre is recommended. Growing is very easy and Macro requires less light to flower than other midi flowered Cyclamen.
Vintro
The large flowered Super Serie Vintro is suitable for a 12 to 15 centimetre pot. A pot size from 12 to 13 centimetre is recommended from half January on. Vintro has a strong, firm plant habit with thick flower stems. It is less sensitive to Botrytis and easy to grow under cold and dark conditions. This means growing requires less energy and there is no additional light needed. Again, easy for saving money.
