A new lidding film which can be placed into existing UK recycling streams offers fresh produce suppliers and retailers more options for recyclable punnets and packaging.
According to manufacturer Parkside, Popflex is designed to stay attached to its PET tray during the recycling process, preventing contamination of other plastics and simplifying the recycling process for consumers. The film, which is made from recyclable PET with at least 30% post-consumer recycled content, is certified by an On-Pack Recycling Label and features Parkside’s ParkScribe technology, offering a laser-scored opening flap for easy access to produce.
Steven Hallford, product development technologist at Parkside, commented, “Retailer guidelines increasingly demand easily recyclable packaging, and studies show widespread consumer confusion when it comes to which packaging components they can and can’t recycle. In addition to its recyclability benefits, it was important for us to deliver the sort of product protection and accessibility performance that today’s consumers expect. The Popflex opening mechanism delivers on both counts, helping protect fresh produce through the cold chain and providing easy access to consumers”. He added that this reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation and the production of sustainable packaging solutions for the fresh produce sector.
