Supermarket Morrisons has used its annual supplier conference to launch 12 commitments which it hopes will improve its trading relationships.
The code, named The way we work with suppliers was announced by commercial director Darren Blackhurst, who also pledged that buyers must “listen”, “show mutual respect” and “act with honesty and integrity.” In addition he said that everything would be confirmed in writing and would be forward looking. Morrisons also promised to ‘pay on time and work hard to resolve disputes quickly.’
The list of commitments comes after Morrisons reduced the ways in which it categorised commercial income from 37 to three. The retailer has also announced four new tiers for suppliers based on their trading relationship. Trusted Strategic Partners will be those who are most engaged. In return they will receive preferential access to the Morrisons senior team including improved access to the appropriate category manager.
