With the Malaga avocado harvest about to begin, the European leading company in production and commercialisation of fresh and processed avocado is evaluating the new season favourably.
“The Malaga avocado season is always highly expected all over Europe.”, says Alberto Plaza, field technician at Montosa. “For its quality, flavour and refinement, our avocado is one of the most desired. It is a fresh and local product, which reaches the consumer within days of harvesting, and always at its optimum level of ripeness”, he adds.
As the tropical fruit sector depends largely on the availability of water, the last season was conditioned by the persistent drought. The Malaga company offers much more optimistic forecasts for the current harvest.
“The quality of our fruit is always exceptional, but the available water directly conditions the amount of kilograms harvested as well as the calibers,” says Alberto Plaza, field technician at Montosa. “This year, the spring rains helped fruit set. Then, the recent storms, which have been so devastating for other crops, in our case are being very beneficial to make the fruit grow,” he concludes.
The Malaga avocado harvest that is now starting in Montosa will predictably last until the beginning of May. Almost all of it is represented by the Hass variety, the most demanded by professional buyers. With France and the United Kingdom in the lead, European markets receive more than half of the volume commercialised by the Malaga company. Large national and European supermarket chains are the main buyers.
“Our customers value very positively our high level of product knowledge, both in the field and in ripening, as well as the continuous supply all year round and the professionalism of the service we offer them,” Plaza concludes.
