ICL’s popular Humax semi-professional growing media range is to go 100% peat free as of January 2021 and, in the interim, will become 30% peat reduced with immediate effect.
“We feel that from a compliance, environmental and practical perspective now is the right time to move our Humax semi-professional products to a 100% peat free range,” says ICL Sales Manager, Adrian Thirtle-Watts.
“The retail sector is coming under pressure to comply with English Government targets to be peat free as of this year. In addition, on-going peat supply issues in Ireland due to planning and licensing restrictions are having a knock-on effect in regard to peat supply in the UK – particularly in terms of the price of imported peat and other raw materials.”
In January 2021 ICL will therefore launch a new Humax range based on its Levington Advance Sustain professional products.
“The carefully formulated new Humax mixes will feature a number of our industry leading professional technologies – Fibagro Advance woodfibre, Osmoform slow release Nitrogen and our H2Gro wetting agent,” explains Adrian. “This will help ensure semi-professional growers and landscapers continue to get the best results and professional performance.”
In the meantime, with immediate effect the existing Humax range is moving to peat reduced and will include 30% Fibagro Advance. The exceptions to this, for a limited time, will be the Humax Original product – specifically designed for propagation purposes – and the John Innes (JI) products. ICL plan to launch peat-free replacements for these in the New Year.
Prices for the new Humax range will increase in-line with the rising cost of the raw materials.
