Faversham charity, Brogdale Collections, has announced a series of open days to allow visitors unprecedented access to its heritage orchards.
This season’s Heritage Orchard Days will be taking place in peak apple harvest season and will include the opportunity to taste and harvest heritage and rare fruits; take part in fruit-related activities including camp fire cooking and apple juicing ; and the chance to enjoy a beautiful self-guided walk through the orchards. Visitors can also bring a picnic and eat their lunch in Brogdale’ s wildlife meadows or ride on the mini train that runs through the orchards.
Sara Smile, operations manager at Brogdale Collections, says: “We’re holding these days to enable visitors to enjoy a lovely day in our orchards including the opportunity to harvest heritage apples and pears. At a time when people are struggling to find good value and entertaining days out, these Heritage Orchard Days are the perfect option as you can go home with armfuls of apples! The numbers are limited , so people need to grab their tickets soon, they’ll sell fast!
“By taking part, people are also helping protect these unique orchards for years to come. Income from ticket sales will be used to fund the orchards’ maintenance and upkeep.”
