The Heinz potato processing factory at Westwick, near North Walsham, has been thrown a lifeline. The factory was due to be closed at the end of April but Albert Bartlett have agreed to buy the site, thus saving hopefully some 200 jobs.
The chief executive of the North Norfolk District Council, Sheila Oxtoby, told BBC News Norfolk: “After the uncertainty about the future of the plant over the past six months, the news that Albert Bartlett is acquiring the Westwick factory is fantastic and a really positive development in the local economy.”
Both Albert Bartlett and the factory workers’ union, USDAW, are due to make statements about the plant’s future towards the end of April.
