Peter Checkley, the new Club Chairman, announced at Fruit Focus that Sean Charlton had kindly agreed to host the Gala Club’s 2015 Harvest Walk on 9 September.
At this event the issue of English Gala fruit quality would be addressed by FAST’s Tim Biddlecombe, although other technologists were likely to make a contribution. A representative of ICA would speak about improved storage technologies, and Adrian Barlow of English Apples and Pears would review the marketing of English apples. “We will invite our customers and hope that growers from all groups within the industry will turn out to meet them and add weight to the prospects of a heavy crop this year to enhance our shop window,” said the Club Secretary.
