Fresh and Tasty (FT) Microgreens, launched in 2021 by husband-and-wife team Steve and Laura Holland, has moved to a new three-acre site at Glanllyn Farm, Wigfair, near St Asaph. The expansion includes two ex-refrigeration shipping containers and a polytunnel four times the size of their previous setup in Groesffordd Marli.
The move marks a rebrand to Fresh and Tasty Microfarm, reflecting a broader focus on edible flowers for cocktails, desserts, and wedding cakes. Microgreens remain core to the business, but the team plans to diversify into heritage veg, baby crops, and eventually, their own varieties, oils and pestos.
“This is an exciting transition for us, as we move to a new location with a new name, new branding and a new direction – it was definitely a case of right place, right time,” said Laura. “The site is far more accessible for deliveries and visiting chefs and customers, the location is perfect and provides scope to do even more, without losing the quality and staying true to our ethos of sustainably growing delicious local produce which have proven popular with venues and retailers in North Wales and beyond.”
Starting from their living room in Old Colwyn, the business now supplies up to 50 microgreen and microherb varieties to restaurants, pubs, independent stores and homes across North Wales. Their success has earned them the Business Growth Wales Rising Star Award and Welsh Produce of the Year title at the Food Awards Wales.
Their daughter Nina has joined the team on an apprenticeship, and support and thanks goes to organisations including The Vale Grocer, the Development Bank of Wales, Cywain, Denbighshire Council, and Glanllyn Farm owners Sam and Alex.
Steve comments, “We can’t grow the microgreens and edible flowers fast enough and have already had a lot of positive feedback and interest from customers locally and in other parts of the UK, so we look forward to opening fully here at the microfarm later this year.”
