The Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA) and MPS have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing sustainable floriculture through an enhanced partnership focused on environmental certification. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in their ongoing efforts to bolster sustainability practices within Ethiopia’s floriculture sector.
As pioneers in certification standards, EHPEA and MPS have been instrumental in shaping global sustainability frameworks, particularly through their involvement in the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI). At the recently concluded HortiFlora 2025, EHPEA and MPS formalized their collaboration by signing an agreement to integrate MPS-ABC certification into EHPEA’s Code of Conduct for Silver and Gold members. This integration ensures that EHPEA-certified growers meet the rigorous environmental standards set by FSI, thereby enhancing their competitiveness in the global market.
“This partnership not only simplifies the certification process for Ethiopian growers but also reinforces Ethiopia’s reputation as a leader in sustainable horticulture,” remarked Mr. Tewodros Zewdie, Executive Director of EHPEA.
Arthij van der Veer, Area Manager Africa of MPS, added, “We are proud to support growers in meeting international sustainability benchmarks and adapting to evolving market demands.”
This initiative will benefit 50 EHPEA member farms, including 39 Silver and 11 Gold members, who will now align with all three FSI baskets—Good Agricultural Practices, Social, and Environmental—under the EHPEA Code of Conduct. It underscores EHPEA and MPS’s shared vision for a more sustainable and inclusive global flower industry.
