The Happy Pear twins – Steve and Dave Flynn – have spent the last 20 years encouraging people to eat more veg. Now the dynamic duo is proud to lend its support to VegPower as ambassadors for the not-for-profit organisation’s Seasonal Veg Alliance campaign.
#SeasonalVeg promotes the importance of eating seasonal, home-produced vegetables which are generally tastier and fresher, as well as being almost universally kinder to the environment and key to supporting the UK’s farming and rural communities.
Figures show that 80% of our children are not eating enough vegetables, with a third eating less than one portion a day. The VegPower mission is to inspire kids to love vegetables and to share that joy with their parents today and their own children tomorrow.
The Happy Pear joins the ranks of an expert group of revered culinary and health supporters keen to spread the word regarding the benefits of accessing seasonal veg. Other advocates include Jamie Oliver, Melissa Hemsley, Prue Leith CBE, Tom Aikens, Priya Tew (Registered Dietitian), Sorted Food, Bettina Campolucci Bordi, Dr Dawn Harper and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.
The Happy Pear has committed to working with VegPower to celebrate the fantastic selection of seasonal veg available in the UK, kicking off with #MushroomMoments in February, and sharing the benefits of mushrooms and mushroom recipes with its 2m+ followers on social media.
Commenting on the working relationship with Veg Power, Steve and Dave Flynn said, “We’ve been on this journey for 20 years and remain passionate in our mission to encourage consumers to embrace plant power and enjoy the numerous health – not to mention taste – benefits associated with a vegetable rich diet.
“It’s more important than ever to highlight the value of eating vegetables, especially with people trying to increase their fibre intake and look after their gut health. We are delighted to join forces with Veg Power to help raise awareness of this wonderful message. With so many tasty and diverse ways to enjoy vegetables, a delicious and fun journey of exploration awaits the Veg Power community.”
