The latest figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS) show that the volume of Dutch exports was up 4.8 per cent in November 2014 compared to the previous year. Agricultural products, along with vehicles, metal and metal products, machinery and equipment showed the biggest growth and Dutch manufacturers also exported more food products.
Domestically the total area of open field horticulture is provisionally estimated at 9.46 million hectares, up 209,000 hectares from 2010. The area down to specialist field crops was 240,767 ha, up slightly from 2010. The area of field vegetables was 79,500 ha a rise of 1 per cent on the previous year.
Onions, which accounted for 30,200 ha, salad crops and asparagus showed the largest growth, while the area of carrots, leeks and peas all fell. Chicory production showed the largest decline, but still occupied 2,960 ha.
