The pelargonium Dark Caliente® Fire from Syngenta FloriPro Services has been named the People’s Choice in the container section of a prestigious Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Plant Trial this year.
Members of the public voted for their favourite zonal-type pelargonium from 74 different container entries. With its single red flowers and dark foliage, Dark Caliente® Fire proved to be the most popular. Comments from members of the public included: “Stunning colour and attractive shape to flowers”; “Even in the rain it was stunning” and “Lovely rich colour, mass of flowers and buds coming along”.
Alex Rhodes of Syngenta FloriPro Services commented: “For our variety to given win this award is a real honour. It shows, not just how well the plant grows, but also what a strong visual impact it has throughout the season. We are delighted to have been named People’s Choice in the trial as it shows how well Dark Caliente® Fire stands out in a bed or a container. The Deep Red flowered Dark Caliente Fire won the award but Caliente is also available in Lavender and Rose colours, or for an even more dramatic effect growers can choose Dark Caliente Pink or Orange which also have deep, rich, dark foliage.”
Calientes have medium vigour and their broad, bushy growth makes them perfect both for ground cover and for all types of containers, where they will cascade as they develop through the season up until the first frost. Ideal for low maintenance situations, the flowers self-clean and keep plants looking attractive, while the foliage is midway between zonal and peltatum types.
