CambridgeHOK is leading the industry with the training of its specialist glasshouse installation team, with three staff members securing new qualifications specifically designed around the key aspects of their work.
Team members David Berry, Christian James and David Evans have secured their Glasshouse Installation qualifications, issued by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). The qualifications include a Level 2 ProQual diploma in steel erecting, Level 2 NVQ in curtain walling installations & fenestration/doors and bespoke additional Level 3 units in teaks management and Health & Safety.
The courses covered all aspects of commercial and bespoke glasshouse building, including the handling of materials in fenestration installations, knowledge of drawings, specifications, methods statements and safety relating to curtain walling installation and key aspects of health and safety relevant to this type of work.
The new industry-specific qualification, which included on-site assessments as well as classroom learning, was developed by CambridgeHOK’s Operations & Projects Manager Jason Tether, an NVQ assessor and verifier himself, alongside construction training specialists the TUTS UK Group, which has a reputation for providing the highest quality of training and candidate support.
On passing the qualification, candidates have qualified and applied for Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) site cards, specifically awarded to demonstrate competency in all main aspects of a glasshouse build.
“We feel this is a big step forward in our industry as, until now, there has not been a specific qualification, awarded by a recognised accrediting body, that caters for the key elements of commercial and bespoke glasshouse builds,” explained Mr Tether. “We committed to developing this qualification as we believe it’s important to be able to demonstrate to our clients and the wider industry that our installation team are fully trained and qualified to deal with every aspect of the job in hand, and that we also fully invest in our people.
