With food production more important than ever and labour shortages increasing, vegetable growers are looking for new solutions. Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak GRIMME has reported a significant increase in inquires for mechanised solutions on labour intensive crops.
Due to this increase in demand the vegetable machinery specialist has invested in two dedicated demonstration harvesters for 2020, one for Leeks and one for Cabbages.
The two harvesters will be carrying out demonstrations all over the UK, with a number of days already booked.
The latest ASA-LIFT PO-335A (pictured) is a single row, tractor mounted harvester ideal for Leeks but can also be converted to harvest spring onions if required. It comes with two rotating brushes that guide the Leeks towards the centre of the intake belts. Belt shakers then ensure a gentle but effective soil separation and special carrying belts ensure a perfect positioning of the leeks onto the cross conveyor which is then gentle positioned into boxes.
The ASA-LIFT MK-1000 cabbage harvester has driven torpedoes that gently guide the cabbages towards the intake belts. These intake belts grip the cabbage by its stalk and guide it to the specially hardened cutting device for a precise, accurate cut with gentle handling. A roller system then removes loose leaves from the cabbages and gently transfers the crop into the boxes.
