On Saturday 10 May 2025, the municipality of Buren will proudly represent the Netherlands at Europe Day 2025 in Echternach, Luxembourg. This special invitation from the Dutch Embassy in Luxembourg followed a recent visit by local political party PCG Buren to the historical town of Vianden, where embassy representatives were also present.
After consultation with the municipality of Buren and the region, PCG Buren stepped forward to help give the Netherlands a local and authentic presence at this prominent European event. Not merely as a political movement, but as proud ambassadors of a region renowned for its fruit-growing excellence, hospitality, and natural beauty.
Europe Day in Echternach is a high-profile event hosted by the European Commission, in collaboration with the City of Echternach and the European Parliament. Thousands of visitors, diplomats, and media from across Europe gather to explore the “European Village” – where nations and regions present themselves. This year, Buren will represent the Netherlands.
At the heart of Buren’s presentation: its internationally respected fruit sector and its increasingly attractive tourism industry. PCG policy advisors and fruit growers Wim van Leeuwen and Wim Zondag will travel to Luxembourg to host the Dutch stand and offer a taste – quite literally – of what the Betuwe region has to offer.
“Buren has so much to offer,” says PCG Buren. “Our fruit sector sets international standards, and our tourism is thriving thanks to scenic landscapes, historic villages, and local entrepreneurs who create memorable experiences.”
“We are grateful for the trust placed in us and proud that Buren can take on this role. Our hope is that this not only boosts Buren’s image, but also brings tangible benefits to the entrepreneurs and sectors that make our region so special.”
