The British Ornamentals Association (BOA) is calling on UK growers to support Horticultural Crop Protection (HCP) Ltd to secure continued access to essential Plant Protection Products (PPPs) from 2026 onwards.
HCP works with the Health and Safety Executive to obtain Extensions of Authorisation for Minor Use (EAMUs) and Emergency Authorisations (EAs). Around 70% of PPPs used in the ornamentals sector rely on EAMUs, and without them many crops would become commercially unviable.
Although some growers already contribute voluntarily, funding is currently too limited to sustain HCP’s work. BOA warns that a system benefiting the whole sector must be supported more widely to protect UK ornamental production.
From 2026, all voluntary contributions must be made via the British Growers Association (BGA), which administers the process. Contributions for April 2025–March 2026 are currently being collected, and businesses must re-register through BGA to continue supporting HCP.
BOA Chair Derek Jarman stressed that access to effective crop protection is vital for the industry’s future and urged all benefiting businesses to contribute.
