Arun District Council has approved a Local Development Order (LDO) for the horticultural sector, simplifying and speeding up the planning process for any growers wishing to develop new glass in the area.
It would also permit additional rights to undertake certain categories or development without the need for planning permission. The move takes place after an eight-week public consultation into whether the LDO should be adopted. The LDO will apply to 10 areas of land currently used for horticulture at various locations throughout the district.
Councillor Gillian Brown, Leader of Arun District Council and Cabinet Member for Council Strategy said: “The council has embraced the LDO’s in order to help make the planning process easier in support of our economy. The Council’s Economic Strategy to 2026 identifies the horticulture sector as one of four key sectors which are particularly strong in the local economy with good opportunities for economic growth and job creation.” The LDO will be adopted for ten years but will be subject to an on-going review, according to the council.
