It is with profound sadness that we announce that Alan Clements has passed away this weekend, with his loving family at his side. Many of you will have met, worked with, chatted Farming, lorries, football or golf. Certainly, Alan leaves a huge legacy and will be remembered with love and good humour by many.
Born during WW2 into a farming family, Alan followed his father into farming but gained a passion for lorries and haulage. Combining these 2 into T H Clements & Son Ltd in 1966, and with a small team around him he built the business toward what we see today.
Sheer determination along with a desire to know how the business worked, Alan would be involved in all aspects from seed purchases, the best fields, packing methods and haulage and would happily discuss business with anyone. He knew almost everyone in the business and spent time in every area looking at what was done and thinking about how it could be done better.
Formality of running the business with meetings wasn’t his style but he made informality work by listening to those around him, although you could be dragged into a discussion you didn’t know much about just because you were in the room.
