Promising selections, crop protection and the latest on spotted wing drosophila (SWD) make up this not-to-be-missed event.
A live webinar providing updates from all the latest AHDB-funded soft-fruit research will take place on Wednesday 18 November, running from 10am until 3.30pm.
The day starts with strawberry breeder, Adam Whitehouse, providing an update on the most promising selections emerging from the East Malling Strawberry Breeding Club. This is followed by a look at saving energy and costs for glasshouse producers, by Jon Swain of NFU Energy.
The remainder of the event will focus on vital crop protection work. One to note is the review of the SCEPTRE Plus trials to find alternative crop protection products for controlling phytophthora in soft-fruit, downy mildew in blackberry, and midges in raspberry.
Also presented will be new information from their integrated pest and disease management (IPM) projects, focusing on novel approaches to controlling two-spotted spider mite in raspberry and a push/pull approach to controlling capsids and thrips in strawberry. Responding to requests from growers, research into the effects of floral margins in supporting natural enemies in strawberry will also be included.
