Commercial flower and plant growers across Wales are urged to reserve a place on a free study tour later this month [February] to two of the country’s most successful nurseries.
On Tuesday 24 February, supply chain efficiency project Horticulture Wales will be leading a visit to Caernarfon, Gwynedd that will take in tours of both new plant breeding specialist Seiont Nurseries and Crug Farm Plants, home to one of the widest ranges of unusual and exotic plants in Wales.
The day will begin at Seiont Nurseries in Pontrug and take in a comprehensive tour of production at the nursery, which is renowned for its new and unusual varieties such as the award-winning ‘Eryngium Neptune’s Gold’, which was shortlisted in the top 20 new plants at last year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
In addition, growers will also get the opportunity to visit nearby Crug Farm Plants, a nursery that is home to a vast array of exotic and extraordinary plants picked up during the regular overseas plant-hunting expeditions of its owners Sue and Bleddyn Wynn-Jones.
For growers based in South and West Wales, return travel from designated pick-up points will be provided, subject to sufficient demand. In order for Horticulture Wales to arrange this transport, interested growers are advised to reserve a place as soon as possible by contacting Karen Rodenburg on (01978) 293972 or emailing k.rodenburg@glyndwr.ac.uk.
Horticulture Wales provides focused, expert support to enhance the efficiency of businesses involved in both edible and amenity horticulture supply chains within Wales. The Horticulture Wales project has received funding through the Supply Chain Efficiencies scheme of the Rural Development Plan for Wales. This scheme is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
