Greenvale, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of fresh potatoes, and The Co-op, have announced that Lilly Irresistible Mashing Potatoes have won a Quality Food Award, beating off stiff competition from six other competitors in the unprepared vegetable category.
Launched as the first Irresistible potato line in 2017, Lilly is a golden skinned potato with a pale-yellow centre, which according to Greenvale, when cooked produces a delicious buttery mash with a smooth creamy texture.
Irresistible Mashing Potatoes are British potatoes grown by a small number of carefully selected growers. The Lilly variety is exclusive to The Co-op and was chosen for its unique taste and flavour.
This variety was developed over the last 10 years, to produce a great tasting potato with the flavour and cooking attributes demanded by today’s shopper. It has an extra buttery taste so no need to add extra butter when mashing.
Following the success of the launch, Irresistible Baby Potatoes were added to the range earlier this year and will be followed by Irresistible Roasting Potatoes which are due to launch in time for Christmas.
Chantelle Wakes, Potato buyer at the Co-op said “We are delighted by the win and it’s great to see a potato variety receive this coveted accolade. It is a worthy winner and has become a firm favourite amongst our customers. We are delighted that the quality of the potato has been widely recognised.”
