Supplier Fresh Direct has looked into its crystal ball and revealed what it believes will be the big trends in fresh produce for 2015.
The company says sour flavours will be popular, with an emphasis on items such as sauerkraut or kimchi. “For desserts or drinks, try using rhubarb as it provides both a great sour flavour and beautiful colour,” they add.
In a recent blog post the company said, “Cauliflower is big news for 2015. Seen by many as the year’s star vegetable, it’s a great blank canvas for incorporating into a wide variety of dishes, from curries to omelettes to soup, with a flavour that’s versatile and low-key. Kale has been everywhere for the last couple of years, and now cavolo nero is here to take its place.” The Italian brassica which is available from a number of UK seed companies was recently tipped as being big this year by Waitrose.
