Aldi has submitted a planning application for a 613,000 sq ft regional distribution centre (RDC) on land they own already at Neats Court, Queenborough, on the Isle of Sheppey. It is planned to have 94 loading bays and there will also be 41,000 sq ft of ancillary offices with 325 parking places. This is part of Aldi’s planned £600 million investment to create 1,000 stores across the UK by 2022 – creating 35,000 jobs. It is understood that they are looking at securing a further 12 stores in Kent with these being serviced by this RDC which will help keep costs down by being geographically closer to many fresh produce suppliers.
